Influences

Hi!
Another question I get a lot from students is "What kind of music do you listen to?" I usually say that I don't listen to music because who really has the time. But seriously I'd like to take this opportunity to answer that question:

During more formative years I was a "grunge" kid, my favorite bands were:
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Nirvana
Alice in Chains
Stone Temple Pilots
Smashing Pumpkins
Weezer

I of course also listened to a lot of the classics too:
Beatles
Led Zeppelin
The Doors

In College I got into more obscure bands:
Sunny Day Real Estate (This is probably my biggest influence)
Far
Failure
Jimmy Eat World
Kent
Hum
The Weakerthans

After college my scope grew:
Interpol
RadioHead
Cold War Kids
Minus the Bear
Hey Mercedes
Queens of the Stone Age
Circa Survive
Edison Glass

I also listen to Christian Praise music:
Delirious
Chris Tomlin
David Crowder

Ok, so I hope that helps you get a sense of where I am coming from musically. Let me know what you think or suggest a group I should check out.

Gear! gear! gear!

Students always ask me what gear I have in my performance rig and I'd like to take this opportunity to break it all down.

-My main guitar is a Fender Thinline Telecaster '72 reissue.
-I play through a '66 reissue Vox AC30 amp with Celestion Alnico Blue speakers.

-My pedal board is a Pedal Train Pro (with ATA Hard Case) and it's powered by the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2

And now for the pedals, in current signal chain order:
-Solid Gold FX Clean Buffer
-JHS Pulp N Peel Compressor
-Boss TU-2 (This will eventually be taken out of the signal chain and will only be connected to my volume pedal)
-TIM Overdrive
-Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET
-Digitech Whammy Pedal
-Gig FX Chopper (This is one of my favorite pedals, it's a Tremolo pedal with built in expression control)
-Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb Nano (I used to have the original but it was on it's last leg after 12 years and this is identical but with a smaller footprint).
-Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy Delay with tap tempo (There are a lot of great delays but for the price point and the intuitive functionality this one is superb)
-Boss RC2 Loop Pedal w/external Footswitch (Boss FS-5U)
-Boss FV-500H Volume Pedal (I used to use an Ernie Ball but this is built like a tank and has a greater sweep).

So that is everything but here is what I have on the horizon
I will eventually add to my board:
-Electro Harmonix Poly Phase
-Pigtronix Dual Expression Pedal (This is an expression pedal that can operate two separate pedals, I'll be plugging it into my Memory Boy and the Polyphase)

I'm also planning on changing out the pickups in my Tele to a matched pair of Seymour Duncan STK-P1. (These are one of their versions of P90s)

Okay, that's all for now. Let me know if you have questions in the comments!

Hi There,
I just wanted to give a shout out to Paul Cochrane at http://www.myspace.com/paulcaudio. I just received his flagship product for Christmas, the TIM Overdrive pedal and I couldn't be more pleased! It is by far the best overdrive pedal I have ever used!  This thing enhances
